FAQs
-
What is Marriage Coaching?
Marriage coaching is a strengths-based, guided approach to growth and development. Just as athletes need coaching, so do married people. Instead of sports, careers, or life, we are coaching marriages to help players reach their full potential and improve their marriage game!
-
Why do I need Marriage Coaching?
Because you are a smart person who knows your marriage can be greater than it is. You have tried achieving your marriage goals on your own and keep coming up short. Marriage coaching provides an unbiased, third party who offers new perspective, identifies strengths, helps open communication, and challenges problem behaviors to help you achieve your marriage goals.
-
Can we do coaching virtually?
YES! Thrive Marriage Coaching offers all of our sessions fully online for your convenience. Virtual coaching sessions fit easily into your busy schedule and enable couples to get the help they need even when they are not in the same location. (Perfect for military couples during deployments or under ways).
-
How is Marriage Coaching different than Marriage Counseling?
Counseling tends to focus on the origin of challenges and emotional healing and addresses problem behavior. Marriage coaching is going to deal with the here and now. We will not be spending much time digging into your past but rather assessing where you are now, identifying strengths and possible areas for improvement and moving forward. For these reasons, coaching tends to be less intimidating for the reluctant spouse. Your marriage coach is FOR YOU as a couple and wants to build on your existing strengths and move you from surviving to thriving.
-
Is Thrive for ALL stages of marriage, or just newlyweds or marriages in trouble?
Thrive Marriage Coaching works with couples of ALL ages and stages of marriage. Coaching is healthy and regular marriage maintenance for optimal performance. We are not in the habit of taking our cars in for oil changes only when they are new. On the contrary, if we want our vehicles to continue to run well and for a long time, we care for them regularly, and so it is with marriage. Let us tend to our marriages regularly and properly care for them so that they will last us a lifetime.
-
What if my spouse does not want to participate?
Marriage coaching is most effective when both spouses are participating. If all members of a team are not present for coaching, the game suffers. Therefore, at this time, Thrive Marriage Coaching does not offer individual coaching options. There are book recommendations and videos available on the Thrive Marriage Coaching Resources page.
-
Is Thrive faith-based?
The short answer is no— Thrive exists to help all marriages, in every stage, rooted in any faith background. I am a Christian, but my methodology will not be strictly faith-based. Of course, my faith will inform our interactions, but the heart behind Thrive is to help any married couple to move from surviving to thriving, whether that be through Christian faith-based coaching or not.
-
Is Thrive for married couples only?
Yes. Thrive Marriage Coaching will work with couples in all stages of marriage and for premarital counseling. We do not offer coaching for individuals and dating couples at this time.
-
Do you accept insurance?
Thrive Marriage Coaching does not accept insurance. With paying out of pocket in mind, rates are competitive and well worth the investment. A military discount is available for active and retired military members and their spouses.
